If you want to take a coastal road, always do it from north to south.
Why? Because doing it from north to south, you will always drive on the internal lane and not on the external one, overlooking the ocean and believe me, it makes the difference.
In Ireland, you drive on the left. I know, it may seem complicated and intimidating, but if after the first 200 meters out of the car rental agency you haven’t rear-ended anyone while trying to figure out where to position yourself, and if you haven’t already damaged your left mirror or right side, you have a good chance of making it another 200 meters safely.
In reality, you get used to left-hand driving quite quickly, but I’d like to offer a few small tips before you get behind the wheel and feel like a little Irish driver. Always take the full insurance and be careful about speed, especially in the countryside and more remote areas. The speed limits can be so high that sometimes, just sticking to them, I feel like a criminal!
